Support engineer pricing and engagement models

Updated

TechSupport Team prices support from your scope: the roles, the number of engineers, the hours to cover and the engineering work needed for fixes. You receive a written estimate after the assessment.

Summary

TechSupport Team does not publish standard rates, because cost depends on scope. Dedicated engineers who join your team are priced as a monthly fee per engineer. 24/7 coverage needs a rotation, so it is priced as a coverage fee for availability plus the engineering work on incidents. A managed support team is priced the same way. Your written estimate shows each part separately.

Engagement models

There are two engagement models. 24/7 coverage can be added to either one.

How it is pricedA monthly fee per engineer.A monthly coverage fee, plus engineering work on incidents and fixes.A coverage fee by hours and model, plus engineering work on incidents.
Main riskKnowledge sits with a few people, so documentation matters.Needs a clear scope and runbooks.Staffed hours cost more when night incidents are rare.

Compare dedicated L2/L3 engineers under your direction with managed technical support before comparing prices. The two models assign daily work differently. A combined daytime and after-hours scope must state the handover, coverage and approval rules; it is not one engineer working every shift.

What drives the cost

  • Roles: L2 investigation, L3 engineering fixes, or both.
  • The number of engineers in each role.
  • Coverage hours: which hours each system needs, up to 24/7, and whether nights are staffed or on call.
  • Technology stack: each extra language, database or platform may require more specialist skills.
  • Incident volume and complexity, measured from your ticket history.
  • Access and compliance requirements, such as client-managed devices or background checks.
  • Onboarding effort, which depends on documentation quality and system age.

Why one engineer is not 24/7 coverage

A week has 168 hours. A full-time engineer works about 40 of them. Covering one seat around the clock takes more than four full-time people, before holidays, sick leave and training.

On-call coverage does not require continuous staffed shifts, but it still needs a rotation with backups. TechSupport Team prices availability separately from the time spent on incidents. Compare staffed shifts and on-call support before choosing a coverage model.

What a scoped estimate includes

  • The roles, the number of engineers and the systems in scope.
  • The coverage schedule for each system and severity.
  • Engineering capacity for fixes and maintenance.
  • The onboarding plan and its cost.
  • Assumptions and exclusions, written out.

TechSupport Team prepares the estimate after the support assessment. Share a sample of application incidents or SaaS product escalations, without customer data. State which work needs L2 investigation and which needs L3 engineering. Agree the severity and response commitments before comparing quotes.

Start small

Start with one engineer, or a pilot on one application and one incident class. Review the work before you add engineers or hours. The pilot scope and its cost are agreed in writing.

Questions buyers ask

What does 24/7 engineering support cost?

TechSupport Team scopes the price by coverage model, systems and incident volume. Staffed coverage pays for rostered shifts; on-call coverage pays for standby time plus engineering work on call-outs. We give a written estimate after the assessment.

How is a dedicated engineer priced?

As a monthly fee per engineer. The fee depends on the role, the experience your stack needs and the hours the engineer works. It appears in the written estimate after the assessment.

How much does application maintenance cost?

TechSupport Team estimates maintenance from the roles, stack and engineering capacity your backlog needs. Planned maintenance capacity and incident coverage are priced separately. After the assessment, your written estimate lists the systems, capacity, onboarding cost, assumptions and exclusions.

Why don't you publish hourly rates?

An hourly rate says little about the total cost of support. Coverage hours, the stack and the incident volume change the price more than the rate does. A scoped estimate shows the real total.

Do you charge for coverage when there are no incidents?

Yes, for staffed or on-call coverage. Coverage pays for engineers being available. Engineering work on incidents and fixes is counted separately.
